GEMS' Mission
The goal of GEMS program is to inspire every
student to become both “good” and
“smart”. In this model, every school community stands for and
reinforces these four building blocks of education: universal
values, global understanding, excellence in all things
and service to humanity. The school uses every opportunity to
naturally reinforce these four building blocks in all activities and
in all subjects, including in the teaching of mathematics.
About our
founder, Dr. Sunita Gandhi
Dr.
Sunita Gandhi
obtained her Ph.D. in Physics from Cambridge University in England
with full scholarship from Trinity College and The Cambridge
Commonwealth Trust. Following her doctorate at Cambridge, Sunita did
further post-doctoral work at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratories in
California, USA. In 1988, Dr. Gandhi joined the World Bank where she
was selected to the Young Professionals Program. During the ten years
she spent at the World Bank, Dr. Gandhi worked extensively on issues
involving development and education. Dr. Gandhi was one of ten staff
members honored by the World Bank’s President for "outstanding
contribution" to development. Dr. Gandhi has been interested in the
educational work of her parents, Jagdish and Bharti Gandhi (founders
of CMS School, which received UNESCO Peace Education Award in 2002).
This work has inspired her to set up the Council for Global Education,
a non-profit foundation in the United States and the Education Society
of Iceland. This same inspiration led Dr. Gandhi to establish DEVI –
Dignity, Education, Vision, International, a successful non-profit
organization serving village populations in villages in UP for the
last ten years. She decided to develop GEMS Program because she felt
that there was not enough materials for children to be "good" and
"smart."
